What paperwork do I need?
You will need the death certificate and legal proof of your entitlement to sell the chattel (vehicle) on behalf of the estate. You will also need the V5C logbook registration document (which is potentially in the deceased’s name) and any service and MOT documentation you have for the vehicle.
How soon after the death can I sell the vehicle?
Once the executor has the Will and the death certificate, they can apply for probate. If someone dies without a Will, the application process remains the same, but you’ll receive ‘letters of administration’ in place of a ‘grant of probate’.
