More:

With the launch of the 550 Maranello in 1996, Ferrari made a significant effort to revive their revered line of the front-engined 12-cylinder grand tourers they had built their reputation upon. Six years later, Ferrari introduced an updated car - the 575M Maranello. Only 251 right-hand drive examples were produced in a little over three years, 182 of which had the F1 semi-automatic gearbox, available for the first time on a 12-cylinder production model.

Unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2002 the name referenced the engine capacity in centilitres and further enhanced ‘Modificata’ specification: a multitude of areas over the predecessor had been improved; not just the more powerful engine but suspension, braking and styling all came in for considerable improvements as well as a host of smaller componentry improvements all-over the car. The engine ‘type’ designation was updated from Tipo F133 AB to F133 EBE.

This glorious 2004 car is in a very rare Blu Mediterraneo, with only two European examples produced in the colour and comes with the sought-after Fiorano Handling Package that came with stiffer springs, a lower ride height, re-tuned steering software for less assistance at low speeds, as well as uprated brake pads with red calipers. This is not to be confused with later-developed GTC Handling package which additionally added split-rim alloy wheels and the costly carbon-ceramic braking system and perhaps moved the car away somewhat from its Grand Touring intentions and styling.

Exactly 50 years prior to this 575M’s production in September 1954, a certain 500 Mondial Pinin Farina Spider chassis 0438MD was raced by Dominican racer and noted playboy Porfirio Rubirosa who drove it in just one international race at Santa Barbara. The car was subsequently made famous by an iconic photograph of James Dean admiring the car that car sported a vibrant blue exterior which is reminiscent of this Blu Medeterraneo exterior. It wore the number 235 and the livery has since been revived by Ferrari in 2021 as part of the 70th anniversary liveries in an updated Blu Electrico finish and nicknamed “The Heartthrob”.

The car comes complete with a complete Schedoni leather book pack and torch, as well as a complete untouched Schedoni leather toolkit with spares.
